![]() See also: Guides:Spelunky 2 Chain Features The branching quest that consists of the Spelunker gathering a series of different items in order to reach the Sunken City is known as the "Chain". ![]() To obtain the Qilin, one must obtain the Ushabti that it spawns from, which is located with the help of the Tablet of Destiny, which itself is obtained through its own series of steps. This is most easily done with the Qilin, a mount with infinite flight. Not to mention it would be pretty unlikely to get the amount of bombs and paste necessary to survive the lava trap without the Ankh now and defeat Kingu. The Sunken City is accessed by ascending up Tiamat's Throne and entering the spaceship resembling Olmec found in the backlayer. So the latest shortcut you could realistically take is the 1-4 one I think, as the Olmec shortcut doesn't have him there, and just let's you quickly choose Tide Pool or Temple, making it impossible to get the Ankh. So now it's pretty close to necessary to have and spend the Ankh whether you go Tide Pool or Temple. ![]() ![]() There's still a method to do it now without dying (here's a clip of it) but it's far more difficult and requires insane amounts of bombs, only worth it to Hectique in the clip because he's going for True Crown anyways which gives effectively infinite bombs. But keep in mind that a few days ago (actually literally a day after I made the post you responded to, lol) they actually patched the lava trap rope skip. If you have the resources to beat Kingu without the sword and get the Tablet of Destiny, that's all you actually need. Yes, technically, being able to skip the Crown/Hedjet means you could skip the Udjat Eye. That of course remains to be seen, but that would really kill the Temple and City of Gold if true. But some people have speculated even high score runs wouldn't do best with the City of Gold, and that getting Madame Tusk's idol in Tide Pool and then using the Clone Gun on it twice would net a higher score ultimately. There's literally no reason you would ever take Temple path IMO outside of high score runs potentially as you said, which is a shame as I think it's really cool otherwise. Whereas this of course would be entirely impossible on Temple since you need to sacrifice yourself on the altar and use the Ankh to get to Duat. But then not only can you theoretically skip the sword and therefore the Hedjet/Crown altogether if you're doing good on bombs and paste, more importantly, you can generally access Abzu and Kingu without even spending the Ankh by using ropes and surviving the lava trap. For starters, Tide Pool is just easier in general than Temple, no question. But then the balancing on Tide Pool and Temple are pretty wonky, whether intentional or not. I feel the balancing for the Jungle and Volcana are pretty good, with good, unique incentives to go for either one. Perhaps at the end you may find what you're looking for. Every time you play the cave's layout will be different.
